Heritage at the Heart: An Homage to Sisters and Best Friends

In the third instalment of Heritage at the Heart, Choo Yilin x En Pointe present a look at the intimate moments between a bride and her Maid-of-Honour on the morning of her Big Day with Malaysian sisters, Nadira and Rita.

At Choo Yilin, we celebrate love in all its forms, and one of the kinds of love that we have been privileged to witness over the years, is the love between sisters and best friends.

The bonds between sisters and best friends are strong and complex; she's the one who "borrows" your makeup, clothes, and bags and then "safekeeps" them in her room. She's the one who'll take the last bar of chocolate from the fridge, only to give it to you when you're feeling down at 2am. She’s the one who will yell at you when you make stupid mistakes, but will cover the same wrongdoing for you with your parents. She's your secret-keeper and biggest cheerleader; she's always there, regardless of the adventure.

Before the wedding, like thousands of days before this one, the bride and her older sister, who is her Maid-of-Honour, have breakfast together. The once-in-a-lifetime occasion starts with a sumptuous breakfast in their 600-square-metre Penthouse at the Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur.

Again, like so many other occasions before today, there’s laughter, tears and surprises. Today’s surprise, to mark this watershed moment in the bride’s life, is an heirloom piece of jewellery.

Nadira wears Choo Yilin’s Cherry Blossom Jade Bangle and Warisan Ring.

The sisters dress together in couture creations from Fizi Woo. Fizi Woo’s contemporary take on traditional gowns feature three-dimensional floral appliqué and intricate embroidery; needlework to the finest degree. The opulent ensembles are paired with fine jade and pearl jewellery from Choo Yilin’s Peranakan, Cherry Blossom, and Warisan Collections.

Both ensembles are an exquisite and timeless nod to Southeast Asian heritage.
