The Hydrangea: How Love Grows

A flower made from many small blossoms. For the loves made from many small acts.

When we first introduced the Hydrangea collection in 2017, we thought we understood what made the flower beautiful. We were drawn to its abundance: the way many small blossoms gathered into a single, magnificent bloom. Nine years later, we see something we missed the first time.

A Love Practised Over Time

A hydrangea does not become abundant all at once. Its fullness is created by individual blossoms gathering over time. Each is modest alone. Together, they become something far greater.

There is a kind of love that grows in the same way. It is built through the meal made without being asked, the room prepared before someone arrives, and the remembering of what another person needs before they say it. Its beauty comes from having been practised.

For The Flowers We Inherited, the Hydrangea returns as one of the signature botanicals in the Choo Yilin archive, seen through the women who spent years making love visible in these everyday ways.

The Hydrangea Returns

For the first time, the collection features Type A azure jadeite, recalling hydrangeas beneath rain-washed light. Set in luminous 18KT gold and diamonds, tiny blossoms gather across each piece like miniature flowers suspended in air.

Jade has carried expressions of love through generations of Asian families, often passing from mother to daughter. Paired with the Hydrangea, it gives material form to a love accumulated slowly enough to become part of a life.

What the Hydrangea Carries Forward

This new edition also marks another chapter in Choo Yilin’s own history. The Hydrangea first recorded what the house saw in the flower in 2017. Its return preserves what we have come to understand since.

To collect a motif across time is to collect the evolution of an idea. One day, this jewel may carry that story beyond the woman who first chose it.

From 31 October to 2 November 2026, a limited selection from this new Hydrangea series will be available through The Flowers We Inherited digital trunk show.
