The Plum Blossom: The Courage to Begin Again
The plum blossom blooms before spring arrives.
It flowers in winter, when the air is cold and the branches around it remain bare.
Perhaps that is why it has endured as such a powerful image of resilience: it does not wait for easier conditions before it blooms.
Before Spring Comes
For our great-grandmothers and the women before them, hardship was not symbolism from afar.
Many lived through war, displacement and periods of profound uncertainty. They knew what it meant to endure a difficult season without knowing when, or whether, it would soften.
When women left their original homes, they could not always bring the landscapes they knew with them. A plum tree that once marked the arrival of a season could not simply be packed into a suitcase.
But what could not be planted could still be remembered. It survived in embroidered cloth, porcelain, carved wood and the decorative language of the homes women made elsewhere.

The Courage to Begin Again
Most of us will find ourselves beginning again at some point in our lives.
Sometimes we choose the beginning. Sometimes life chooses it for us.
A marriage, a new home, motherhood. The end of something we thought would last. Or simply the quiet realisation that we have become someone different from the woman we once were.
Beginning again does not always mean returning to who we were before. Sometimes it means learning how to bloom as the person we have become.
This is the meaning the Plum Blossom carries for us now: the courage of returning to life after a season that changed you.
A Winter Flower, Carved in Jade
Under The Flowers We Inherited, the Plum Blossom enters the Choo Yilin botanical world for the first time.
For its debut, the Plum Blossom is carved in white natural Type A jadeite, framed in organic 18K antique yellow gold and accented with diamonds.
The whiteness of the jade recalls blossoms appearing against a winter landscape, while the warm, irregular curves of antique yellow gold trace the flower in bloom.
There is something especially meaningful to us about rendering this flower in jade. The Plum Blossom may represent the courage to begin again, but jade gives that beginning permanence.
For the Woman Who Blooms Again
The Plum Blossom joins the Choo Yilin botanical world for the first time, alongside the Camellia, Cherry Blossom and Hydrangea.
It was created for moments of passage. For beginnings chosen joyfully, and beginnings we never expected to make.
