Five Eras of Engagement Rings through Old Mine Cut Diamonds

At Choo Yilin, we believe that jewellery is a profound bridge between generations — a way to honour those who came before us and to gift something meaningful for those who come after. This philosophy is at the heart of everything we create, and we hope it is apparent in this collection.

These five engagement rings, each inspired by a pivotal historical, carry the unmistakable Choo Yilin signature. Yet, they are also deeply rooted in the legacies of the men and women who came before us. From the masterful artisans of centuries past who perfected intricate techniques and the courageous women who redefined love and beauty through their choices, this collection is as much a tribute to their contributions as it is about celebrating jaw-dropping beauty.

Each ring reflects the ethos of its era and a collective heritage, reinterpreted by Choo Yilin for the modern wearer. At the centre of every piece is an Old Mine Cut diamond — a gem as storied as the eras it represents — anchoring each design in history while being fully relevant for the 21st Century woman.

Through this collection of Old Mine Cut rings, we honour the past, celebrate the present, and create heirlooms for the future.

1. The Choo Yilin Georgian

The Old Mine Cut diamond is set in a classic East-West Collet Setting, a hallmark of the Georgian era (1714–1837). Traditionally, jewellers of this period used silver for such settings, as white gold and platinum had not yet been introduced. At Choo Yilin, we reimagine this timeless design in 18KT gold.

The cup holding the diamond is quintessentially Choo Yilin — our signature botanical motifs are adorned with diamonds and intricate swirls, adding a contemporary flourish to this historically inspired piece. As always, our logo is discreetly carved into the gallery, reflecting our enduring commitment to craftsmanship and heritage.

2. The Choo Yilin Victorian

This Victorian-inspired ring pays homage to the iconic diamond halo, which gained immense popularity during the Victorian era (1837–1901). While the halo design remains a beloved choice for modern brides, ours subtly nods to its historical roots. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice gentle curves in the halo — a detail that reflects the craftsmanship of a bygone era when each diamond was meticulously set by hand.

The swirls in the cup is inspired by the romantic motifs that defined Victorian jewellery and have become a cherished Choo Yilin signature. Our logo is delicately carved into the gallery, an understated mark of authenticity and timeless artistry.

3. The Choo Yilin Belle Époque

The Choo Yilin Belle Époque ring has the most ornate halo in this collection, embodying the opulence and artistry of the Belle Époque era (1871–1914). This design reflects the grandeur of the time, with diamond-studded swirls and meticulous milgrain detailing creating a dazzling halo.

We adore how the milgrain texture — a popular embellishment of this era — adds vintage sophistication to the design. Like its predecessors, the ring features our Choo Yilin logo, carved into the gallery as a homage to our heritage and dedication to craftsmanship.

4. The Choo Yilin Edwardian

The Choo Yilin Edwardian ring showcases a feminine diamond halo, perfected over the years, especially in our jade heirloom pieces. This design draws deep inspiration from classical Edwardian jewellery (1901–1910), characterised by delicate, lace-like patterns and fine filigree work.

True to Choo Yilin's spirit, we've incorporated our signature halo, giving this piece a refined, timeless aesthetic that honours its historical roots while remaining modern. Our logo is gracefully carved into the gallery, underscoring our commitment to creating heirlooms that carry forward stories of love and legacy.

5. The Choo Yilin Art Deco

Highly geometric and symmetrical, the Choo Yilin Art Deco ring pays homage to the bold architectural style of the Art Deco era (1920s–1930s).

The cup holding the diamond embodies classic Art Deco aesthetics, drawing inspiration from Chinese lattice structures prevalent across Asia, including Singapore, our founder's home. We're especially proud of this piece, as it reflects the glamour of the 1920s — a transformative era that shaped popular culture — and the classical Chinese motifs that have inspired us for centuries. Our logo is carved into the gallery, grounding this contemporary heirloom in a legacy of craftsmanship and heritage.

Through this collection of Old Mine Cut diamond rings, we’ve sought to capture the essence of history and heritage, reinterpreting it for the modern world. From the delicate floral motifs of the Georgian era to the geometric boldness of Art Deco, these designs celebrate the timeless beauty of the Old Mine Cut diamond — an enduring symbol of love, history, and transformation.
