The Estate Collection No. 6 - Georgian Earrings

Choo Yilin The Estate Collection No. 6 - Georgian Earrings

Purchased from a London dealer, but it could well be of Portuguese origin, given its influence on the world in the 18th Century and the aesthetic of the piece.

The intricate late Georgian botanical metalwork with its signature rose cut diamonds was originally a pair of buttons(!) sewn to an important piece of clothing that conveyed status, likely from a wealthy aristocrat or royalty. It is remarkable that it survived over 200 years in almost perfect condition. Most Georgian pieces have been melted over the years to be repurposed into other pieces, usually because they have been damaged beyond repair.

It has been re-imagined as a pair of statement earrings, with luminous ice jade cabochons and modern brilliant cut diamonds delicately set in 18KT gold accompanying this 200 year-old European majesty.

It was such a lovely reminder that things that we associate with home have been influenced and lovingly evolved through vast time and cultures. And it makes us all feel more connected, somehow.
